New Brighton Union Church

  • Needs Volunteers

A small, but big-hearted Central New Brighton church, engaged in a diverse range of community projects and partnerships for the well-being of the wider community. These include: Loopy Tunes (music and movement for pre-schoolers); Seaside Seniors, Neighbourhood BBQ; Tuesday movies; Environment Group; Earthquake support group; Community Book exchange; and, the Steeple Community Garden. We also are partners in the Wellbeing New Brighton project focused on low-income whanau/families. We were seriously impacted by the earthquakes, and lost our 98-year old worship centre. We are now at an advanced stage of planning a redevelopment of our site. The Concept Plan includes upgrading the facilities of our existing hall; and building a connected community house & intimate Chapel of the Waves. In the future we also hope to build social housing units on site. A major activity of our parish is running the social enterprise The Purple Door Boutique Op Shop - open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays & every third Saturday from 10am-2pm. Our services of worship are currently cafe style in the hall at 10am on Sundays.
